BAKAUA TRADITION IN TABEK NAGARI SIJUNJUNG (FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS)

Abstract

This research was motivated to reveal the function of the Bakaua tradition found in Tabek Nagari Sijunjung. The Bakaua tradition is a tradition carried out by the local community (Tabek) by eating together after the harvest is obtained. This research discusses (a) the process of implementing the Bakaua Tradition in Tabek Nagari Sijunjung (b) the function of the Bakaua Tradition in Tabek Nagari Sijunjung. The theory used is the functional theory put forward by R. William Bascom. Research informants were selected based on appropriate criteria. These informants were community leaders consisting of ninik mamak, religious scholars, clever and clever other community figures in Nagari Tabek. The types of data from this research are primary and secondary data. Data obtained from interviews, observations, literature/document studies. Data analysis was carried out using data collection techniques, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. From this research it was found that the Bakaua tradition in Tabek Nagari Sijunjung is a form of gratitude to Allah SWT for the abundance of good fortune and rice harvests obtained by farmers. The Bakaua tradition is carried out every Monday after midday prayers. The stages of this procession are deliberation, mutual cooperation, slaughtering buffalo, cooking buffalo meat, randai, procession, pasambahan dance, eating together, and closing the event.
